April 16 – Hamilton, New Zealand Global Protest Against Barnevernet



The Norwegian Child Protection Services snatched Marius and Ruth Bodnariu's five children on 16 November, 2015. 

Since then, 70,000+ protestors in 56 cities across 26 countries have taken to the streets. Now it's our turn, New Zealand.

Why Protest?
- The children were aged 9 years to just 3 months.
- They were taken without warning, on made-up charges.
- Barnevernet threathened permanent adoption straight away.
- The two girls, two boys and baby boy were separated from each other, with no contact. 
- The CPS (called Barnevernet) have used dirty tactics to interrogate the parents and eldest two children.
- Documents show that Barnevernet planned to break up the family - a very normal family, at that.

- Because the Bodnarius spoke up, the world has learnt of other families with Norwegian-state-kidnapped children.
- A whole 1 % of children in Norway (about 9,000) have been forcibly removed from their parents and have not been not returned.
- Actual reasons:
* The mother cut the toast too thick. This is unNorwegian.
* The Indian parents fed children by hand. This is unNorwegian.
* The mother dressed the daughter too prettily. This is unNorwegian.
* The baby did not make enough eye contact with the (Deaf) mother. She must be being abused.
* The girl dreamt about The Hulk, which she saw in a movie. She must be being abused.
- If these reasons for forced, violent removal seem incredible to you, consider that Barnevernet is run for profit. The more children in the system, the more money they make. 
- Children with a foreign-born parent are three times as likely to be snatched. Even tourists are targeted.

Why New Zealand?
- A protest will add another city and another country to the list. 
- When word spread of a NZ protest, we received messages of thanks from Europe, the US and Australia. Our voices really matter!

SO WHAT DO WE DO?
- A global protest is planned for 16 April.
- We will take photos and a video clip that protest organisers will collate with other cities' footage.
- We will provide signs and balloons to hold (like the ones pictured on our page).
- All we need from you is to BE THERE.
- Be assured your presence will REALLY make a difference for human rights in Norway.
- Parking is free in the Garden Place car park (access off Anglesea Street). 
- Wear something red if you have it.
